NAGOYA - Curry restaurant chain CoCo Ichibanya will introduce a late-night surcharge for the first time from September 1 and raise prices on a dozen toppings as higher ingredient, packaging and labor costs put pressure on operations.

Ichibanya, which operates the Curry House CoCo Ichibanya chain, said it will add a 7% surcharge to dine-in and takeout orders placed between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.

The company will also raise prices on 12 of its 44 toppings, including sausages and scrambled eggs, by an average of 17%.

The increases will range from 11 yen to 60 yen. Chicken cutlet and crispy chicken toppings will each rise by 48 yen to 396 yen.

Ichibanya said raw material and packaging costs have increased due to factors including the weaker yen and international conditions, while labor expenses have also risen.

The company said the changes are necessary to maintain stable restaurant operations.
