MIYAGI - An evacuation order has been issued for the entire city of Ishinomaki and parts of Marumori in Miyagi Prefecture as heavy rain caused by the autumn rain front disrupts transportation across the region, with a linear rainband potentially forming along the Pacific side of Tohoku through the evening.

Heavy rain has been falling across wide areas of Tohoku and Kanto under the influence of the autumn rain front.

Sendai has experienced steady rain since the morning, with rainfall repeatedly strengthening and weakening. Conditions intensified again later in the day, accompanied at times by strong winds.

Authorities issued an evacuation order covering all of Ishinomaki and some districts of Marumori.

The heavy rain has also caused widespread disruption to conventional railway services in Miyagi Prefecture, with operations suspended on many lines since the morning.

One tourist who was traveling toward Matsushima-Kaigan Station said there were trains available for the outbound journey but expressed concern about whether it would be possible to return to JR Sendai Station.

The Tohoku Shinkansen was also experiencing delays of around 150 minutes following a fatal accident involving a person on the tracks earlier in the morning.

Meteorological authorities warned that a linear rainband could form through the evening along the Pacific side of Tohoku, including Miyagi Prefecture, potentially bringing extremely heavy rainfall over the same areas.

Residents have been urged to remain on high alert for landslides.
