Suzuki Launches Long-Range e SKY Electric Mini Car

TOKYO - Suzuki Motor said it will launch its new e SKY electric minicar on November 16, marking the automaker's first battery-powered mini passenger vehicle and offering a driving range of 310 kilometers on a single charge, among the longest for a Japanese-made vehicle in the category.

The e SKY will be priced from 2.12 million yen including tax. Buyers who qualify for a national government subsidy of about 570,000 yen, available through the end of December, will effectively be able to purchase the vehicle from about 1.55 million yen.

Suzuki President Toshihiro Suzuki said the new model reflects the company's long experience developing minicars based on customer feedback. "The new e SKY is one answer that only Suzuki could have reached after continuing to refine minicars together with the voices of our customers," he said.

The company said the vehicle can travel about 310 kilometers on a full charge, placing it among the longest-range electric minicars produced by Japanese automakers.

Suzuki also said five minutes of rapid charging can provide enough power for approximately 50 kilometers of driving.
