Aug 31 (NHK) - Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and his British counterpart Theresa May held unofficial talks in Kyoto on Wednesday. She arrived in Japan earlier in the day. May is visiting the country for the first time as prime minister.
The pair took a walk through the Japanese garden at the Kyoto State Guest House and held the meeting over dinner in the evening.
They are believed to have discussed regional issues, including North Korea's test-firing of a ballistic missile that flew over Japan on Tuesday.
Earlier, Abe invited May to a tea ceremony at a traditional tea house of the Omote-senke school.
During his stay in Britain in April, Abe was invited to the British prime minister's official retreat, the Chequers residence.
