Sep 04 (NHK) - Prime Minister Shinzo Abe had telephone discussions about North Korea's latest nuclear test with US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin on Sunday.
Abe spoke for 10 minutes with Trump and with Putin for 15 minutes.
Abe told Trump that the scale of the North's nuclear test earlier in the day was the largest of all previous detonations conducted by Pyongyang.
Abe said the test was an intolerable, reckless act and an all-out challenge, not only for Japan and the United States, but for the entire international community.
He said his administration considers it an unprecedentedly serious and pressing threat to Japan's national security.
Abe added that his government intends to deal with the matter in concert with the United States under the bilateral alliance.
He later told reporters that both he and Trump agreed that the international community should squarely face the North with stronger pressure.
He and Trump agreed that the roles of China and Russia will be vital in resolving the issue. They plan to put further pressure on the North, together with the United Nations.
