Sep 20 (NHK) - A work by 15th-century ink wash painter Sesshu that had been missing for 84 years has been found.
The landscape, set in a roughly 30-by-30-centimeter fan-shaped framework, is done in the style of Chinese Southern Song Dynasty painter Xia Gui.
The painting had been missing since an auction in 1933, but was found in a private collection. The Yamaguchi Prefectural Art Museum in western Japan confirmed that it's by Sesshu.
Six of the artist's paintings are designated as national treasures. The found work is said to resemble one of them, known as the "Landscape of the Four Seasons."
