Sep 27 (Japan Today) - Around 1,900 students from 53 elementary and junior high schools in Tokyo’s Shinjuku, Toshima and Itabashi wards have complained of an “unusual†smell coming from milk they were given as part of their school lunches, ward authorities reported Tuesday.
According to officials, the milk was manufactured at the Toda factory of dairy company Meiji Co, and was distributed to a total of 282 schools, including several wards in Tokyo, and Saitama Prefecture’s Wako and Fujimino cities, Fuji TV reported.
There are no reported health issues as of present, authorities said, but all students who tasted the milk said that it “had a different smell than usual.â€
According to representatives from Meiji, sanitation inspections showed no abnormalities, but the company will be conducting additional tests to detect the problem.
