Abe, Ivanka Trump dine in Tokyo

Nov 04 (NHK) - Prime Minister Shinzo Abe dined with Ivanka Trump in Tokyo ahead of a visit to Japan by her father, US President Donald Trump, from Sunday.

Ivanka Trump, who is an advisor to the US president, arrived in Japan on Thursday. She attended the World Assembly for Women on Friday along with Abe. Abe invited her to a Japanese-style hotel on Friday night. They shook hands at the entrance and waved to the media. As they sat down for dinner, Abe said he welcomed Ivanka from the bottom of his heart. He thanked her for delivering "a wonderful speech" at the conference. Abe also said he is pleased to have established a strong relationship of trust with President Trump ever since they first met in November last year. The prime minister handed a bouquet to Ivanka Trump to mark her birthday on October 30th. They talked about Japan-US relations, women's issues, family and hobbies. Abe later told reporters that he enjoyed the gathering. Trump posted photos of the dinner on Instagram and Facebook. They showed her watching a traditional Japanese dance and receiving the bouquet from Abe. She wrote on Instagram: "An unforgettable last night in Tokyo. Thank you Prime Minister Abe for the warm hospitality and the belated birthday wishes."
