Jan 12 (NHK) - Professional soccer player Kazuyoshi Miura has broken his own record for oldest player to sign a contract in the J-League. Miura will celebrate his 51st birthday on February 26th.
Second-tier J-League club Yokohama FC announced its renewal of Miura's contract at 11:11 AM on January 11th in honor of his number, 11.
Miura, widely known in Japan as Kazu, has been playing in the Japanese league since it started in 1993.
Last year, Miura scored one goal in 12 matches at the age of 50, breaking his own record for oldest player to score a goal in the league.
Miura said he's glad to have signed a contract for a new season. He added that he will continue to play his best and grow.
The soccer star is now in Guam for preseason training.
He plans to join the team next week in Vietnam to prepare for the new season.
