Sep 05 (NHK) - Severe Tropical Storm Jebi is heading north after wreaking havoc in many parts of western Japan.
The Meteorological Agency estimates that as of 5 AM on Wednesday, local time, Jebi was located 150 kilometers south-southwest of Rebun Island in Hokkaido and moving north at 85 kilometers per hour.
The central atmospheric pressure was 975 hectopascals.
The maximum sustained wind speed was 108 kph, with the maximum instantaneous wind velocity reaching 162 kph.
Winds of more than 90 kph are blowing in a 110-kilometer radius east of the storm's center and a 60-kilometer radius west of the center. Agency officials warn that Jebi could bring an hourly rainfall of more than 50 millimeters to northern and eastern Japan on Wednesday morning.
The officials are urging people to stay on the alert for gusts, rough seas, landslides, floods and swollen rivers.
