Apr 10 (NHK) - The operators of some major theme parks in Japan say their gates will be shut for at least another month amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The operator of Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea had earlier set a tentative target of reopening the two parks on April 20. They've given up on that plan. The company now says it will wait until the middle of May to decide on a date for reopening.
Universal Studios Japan in Osaka had earlier extended its shutdown period until mid-April. But now the park will keep its doors closed until at least mid-May.
The Disney and USJ operators say the latest decisions are in response to the government's state-of-emergency declaration.
The pandemic has also shuttered Sanrio Puroland, a popular theme park in suburban Tokyo. Home to Hello Kitty among other characters, this attraction will remain shut until at least May 10.
