Oct 24 (NHK) - Japan's Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide says the utmost effort is necessary to prevent coronavirus infections and fend off cyberattacks ahead of next year's rescheduled Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics.
Suga made the remark at a government panel meeting on the 2020 Tokyo Games on Friday. All cabinet ministers attended the meeting.
Suga said Japan will host the games as proof that humankind has defeated the coronavirus pandemic.
He also expressed resolve to show the world at the games that regions affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake have made a spectacular recovery.
Suga said effective measures must be studied to prevent coronavirus infections among people involved in the games, and spectators. He said the roles of local governments must also be discussed.
Suga instructed all cabinet ministers to do everything possible to protect against cyberterrorism and strengthen security, transport and immigration control procedures for foreign athletes and other visitors.
