Feb 18 (NHK) - Japan's health ministry says over 90 percent of the coronavirus deaths during the past week involved patients aged 70 and older.
The ministry said municipalities nationwide reported 960 deaths due to the coronavirus during the week up to Tuesday.
The ministry said 29.4 percent of the patients who died were aged 90 and older, while 43.2 percent of them were in their 80s. It said 18 percent were in their 70s, 5 percent were in their 60s, 2.8 percent were in their 50s, 0.9 percent were in their 40s, 0.4 percent were in their 30s and 0.2 percent were in their 20s.
The ministry said there were no deaths among patients younger than 20.
The government said 29.4 percent of people aged 65 and older have received a third vaccine booster shot as of Wednesday.
