First Elementary School Sumo Tournament in 5 Years on Amami Oshima

KAGOSHIMA, Aug 04 (News On Japan) - The Amami Festival is currently taking place in Amami City, Kagoshima Prefecture, featuring events such as boat races and sumo tournaments for children.

Amami Oshima is known as the island with the most sumo rings in Japan, reflecting its deep-rooted sumo culture. The tournament, which had been on hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic and typhoon disruptions, is being held for the first time in five years.
