Thai Woman Arrested for Defrauding Over 73 Japanese of 100 Million Yen

BANGKOK, Aug 05 (News On Japan) - A suspect in Thailand has been arrested for allegedly targeting and defrauding 73 Japanese nationals, amassing over 100 million yen.

Uthai Nantakan, a Thai national, was arrested on suspicion of defrauding Japanese men of more than 10 million yen. Posing as someone who had lost her wallet and passport, she sought assistance from Japanese men, requesting money under the pretense of medical expenses.

Additionally, she solicited large sums for supposed business investments.

Uthai has a history of targeting Japanese tourists in similar scams for the past decade, with 73 Japanese victims and total damages exceeding 100 million yen.

Uthai: "I intended to live solely on money from Japanese people."

Uthai explained that her actions were motivated by a desire for revenge against Japanese men due to a past romantic relationship that ended in deceit and trouble.
