Taro Kono Announces Bid for LDP Leadership

TOKYO - Taro Kono, the Digital Minister, held a press conference at the National Diet Building on Monday, officially announcing his candidacy for the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) leadership election for the third time.

LDP Digital Minister Taro Kono stated, "Restoring trust in politics is an urgent matter. By returning the unreported amounts, I intend to take responsibility and move forward."

In light of the faction's slush fund scandal, Kono declared his intention to press all members who had undisclosed amounts in their political funds balance sheets to return those amounts, as a step toward accountability.

Additionally, regarding the upcoming leadership election, Kono emphasized the need to thoroughly discuss the shape of the global order and highlighted his experience as both Foreign Minister and Digital Minister, asserting that he has a proven track record of implementing necessary reforms.
