Preview | Princess Principal: Crown Handler

May 23, 2025 (News On Japan) - The fourth chapter of the anime film series Princess Principal: Crown Handler opened in theaters on Friday, continuing the high-stakes spy narrative centered on the covert operations of Team White Pigeon.

The new trailer, now playing to strong audience interest, highlights themes of betrayal, loyalty, and political upheaval with the tagline: “Their beautiful friendship is the deadliest poison.”

The film series follows five operatives—Ange, Princess, Dorothy, Beatrice, and Chise—under the code name Team White Pigeon. In this latest installment, the team is assigned to investigate Bishop, a Commonwealth spy embedded within the Kingdom’s royal family, amid suspicions regarding his allegiance. When Bishop is killed by an unknown assailant and Prince Richard narrowly survives an assassination attempt, the team is ordered to track down Cavorite bombs stolen from the Commonwealth.

The discovery of the missing bombs leads to a deeper conspiracy implicating Richard, who is revealed to be behind both the bomb theft and the assassination of Prince Edward. With Edward—first in line to the throne—now dead, a fierce succession struggle erupts between Richard and Princess Mary, the Queen’s second heir. Richard invites Princess to join his vision for reforming the Kingdom, further complicating her loyalties.

Compounding the tension, a failed mission to assist Princess Mary’s defection results in the capture of Team White Pigeon by the Kingdom’s internal forces. Though temporarily released, the team remains under constant surveillance, and the Princess is placed under the Duke of Normandy’s control. The Duke commands the four remaining members to serve as double agents, straining their position between the Kingdom and the Commonwealth.

As the Commonwealth begins to suspect their loyalty, a new assignment is issued to assess their allegiance: make contact with a key economic figure believed to be capable of destabilizing the region. The team’s infiltration of a factory sets in motion a perilous sequence of events that threatens their survival.

In this fourth installment, the spy narrative deepens, as shifting allegiances and royal ambitions push Team White Pigeon to the brink in a Kingdom on the edge of transformation.
