TOKYO - Tokyo police have arrested seven men in their 20s on suspicion of abducting and confining a man in Itabashi Ward for three months beginning in January, subjecting him to repeated beatings that left him with injuries requiring six months to heal.
The suspects include Yuto Oshiro, 24, and Kaito Oshiro, 25. The group allegedly forced a man in his 30s into a car, handcuffed him, and held him captive inside a rental storage unit.
Investigators believe the suspects used various objects—including a hammer, frying pan, pliers, and a lighter—to inflict severe injuries during the prolonged confinement.
In addition to the physical abuse, the suspects reportedly forced the victim to borrow money and cancel insurance policies, collecting early termination penalties. The total amount extorted is estimated at around 2 million yen.
Just before the victim was rescued, he was made to call his family via video chat and say he was safe, in what police suspect was an attempt to cover up the crime.
Authorities are investigating the motive, with initial reports indicating the case may have stemmed from a financial dispute involving a company linked to the victim and one of the suspects, Yuto Oshiro.
