OSAKA, Jul 28 (News On Japan) - Police across Japan are urging the public to turn in certain toy guns that were offered as crane game prizes, warning they may be capable of firing live ammunition and could constitute a violation of Japan’s firearms law.
The toy in question is the China-made "Real Gimmick Mini Revolver," which had been distributed as a novelty item but is now considered by law enforcement to possess lethal capabilities comparable to that of real handguns. Authorities say it falls under the same legal restrictions as regulated firearms under the Firearms and Swords Control Law.
According to Hyogo Prefectural Police, 17 of the guns have been collected from individuals who reported acquiring them through crane games and similar venues. In Tokushima Prefecture, around 300 of the revolvers had been used as crane game prizes in multiple commercial facilities since around December last year. However, only 26 have been recovered so far.
Police are calling on anyone in possession of these revolvers to turn them in to their nearest police station by the end of the year, warning that keeping them could lead to criminal charges under Japan’s strict gun control laws.
