OSAKA, Aug 26 (News On Japan) - Osaka Prefectural Police are set to begin a pilot program from September 1 to have officers wear body-mounted cameras while on duty, recording footage during deployments.
The devices will be used to preserve evidence from incident scenes and to help prevent crowd accidents during security operations at events. Officials said that during the trial period, officers will wear the cameras on the chest or near the face while performing their duties.
In consideration of privacy, the cameras will not be used inside homes or offices, and recorded footage will be automatically deleted after a set retention period.
