Sky-High Restaurant Opens in Osaka for Limited Time

OSAKA - A new “Sky Restaurant” experience will open in Osaka’s Nakanoshima district on October 10, offering diners the rare thrill of enjoying food and drinks while suspended 40 meters above ground.

The attraction marks its Kansai debut, following successful runs in more than 65 countries including the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and China.

The open-air dining platform, lifted by a large crane, seats 22 guests who can enjoy panoramic views of Osaka without walls or barriers. The experience is part of an international event that originated in Belgium and has been held over 10,000 times worldwide.

The restaurant is located within Nakanoshima Gate South Pier, a new multi-use complex between Umeda and the Osaka-Kansai Expo site. The venue hosts restaurants, events, and open plazas aimed at revitalizing the local community.

Guests are securely strapped in with cross-seat belts, ensuring safety despite the height. The seats can rotate and recline up to 180 degrees, allowing customers to gaze directly at the sky or enjoy a “nap in the air.” Drinks such as white wine, beer, and soft beverages are available with an all-you-can-drink plan, accompanied by small gourmet dishes like prosciutto with melon and beef bites.

Staff on the ground manually stabilize the platform with ropes, while also rotating it slowly to give diners a full 360-degree view of the cityscape. The scenery shifts dramatically from daytime views of Osaka’s riverfront to a glittering nighttime skyline, offering a distinctly different atmosphere after sunset.

The Sky Restaurant will operate until December 28. Each session lasts about 30 minutes, with prices varying depending on the time of day. Full details are available on the official website.
