TOKYO, Mar 23 (News On Japan) - Hitachi Ltd. will open a new studio designed to accelerate the real-world adoption of “physical AI,” a technology that analyzes real-world data to autonomously control machines and robots, as the company seeks to expand practical applications across industries.
The “Physical AI Experience Studio,” set to open on April 1st, will allow companies and other visitors to experience robots equipped with physical AI that can mimic human movements, learn from them, and independently evolve to improve work efficiency. The facility will also feature wearable devices such as gloves capable of measuring hand movements and finger pressure, enabling systems to learn the techniques of skilled workers.
Jun Yoshida, head of Hitachi’s AI CoE HMAX and AI Promotion Center, said many customers have expressed uncertainty about what physical AI is and how it can be applied to their own operations, adding that the studio will help demonstrate how the technology can handle complex tasks that were previously difficult to automate, broadening understanding of AI’s potential.
Hitachi, which has already introduced physical AI solutions in sectors such as railways, aims to use the studio as a platform to promote broader social implementation of the technology, addressing challenges such as labor shortages and rising personnel costs.
