Cybercab Arrives in Japan

TOKYO - Tesla unveiled its Cybercab in Japan for the first time on September 11, showcasing an AI-powered autonomous taxi designed without a steering wheel or pedals.

The gold-colored vehicle drew large crowds at its public unveiling.

Unlike conventional cars, the Cybercab has neither a steering wheel nor pedals. Eight cameras installed around the vehicle capture its surroundings, with artificial intelligence analyzing the images in real time to determine how the vehicle should move.

The model is designed exclusively for use as a fully autonomous taxi without a human driver.

Tesla introduced the Cybercab in Texas in the United States on September 3, and the company expects its use to expand.

Tesla Japan President Hashimoto said there is no timetable yet for introducing the Cybercab in Japan but said the possibility of a launch "definitely exists."

"We want to launch it when Japan's legal framework and our safety standards can be properly aligned," Hashimoto said.
