Six Pakistanis Arrested Over Illegal Taxi Services in Kyoto

KYOTO - Six Pakistani nationals have been arrested on suspicion of repeatedly operating unauthorized taxi services for foreign tourists in Kyoto and other sightseeing destinations, with police investigating what they believe may be an organized operation involving additional suspects.

The six men, including Jian Cheema, are suspected of transporting foreign tourists from their accommodations to popular sightseeing locations in Kyoto and elsewhere without the licenses required to operate commercial passenger transport services.

During questioning, one of the six admitted to the allegations, while Cheema and the remaining four denied wrongdoing, claiming that they had provided transportation free of charge rather than accepting payment.

Investigators have established that the six men shared and operated at least seven vehicles, raising suspicions that the illegal taxi services were conducted as part of a coordinated operation.

Police are continuing their investigation into the suspected network, including the possibility that other individuals were involved in arranging or providing unauthorized transportation to foreign visitors.
