COVID-19 patient in Japan receives world's first living donor lung transplant

Apr 10 (CNA) - Doctors in Japan have performed the world's first lung transplant from living donors.

The woman underwent an 11-hour operation and received lung tissue from her husband and son. All three are reported to be recovering and in stable condition. The woman had contracted COVID-19 in late 2020 and was put on life support for more than three months. Like many severe coronavirus patients, she suffered irreversible lung damage. According to the hospital, with the transplant, the patient is expected to go back to her normal life in three months.
