Kitakyushu, Jan 16 (News On Japan) - Kitakyushu-based airline StarFlyer has expanded its service allowing small dogs and cats in the cabin to all domestic routes starting from January 15.
The pet initiative started in March 2022 on the Kitakyushu-Haneda route to meet the needs of pet owners who wish to travel with their pets, and now extended to all domestic flights.
The fee is 50,000 yen per pet for a one-way trip, and only small dogs and cats that fit into a specified cage are allowed to be brought onboard.
The cage is secured near the window of the rear-most seat, allowing the pet owner to sit beside it.
According to national guidelines, pets are treated as hand luggage, and in case of emergencies, they are not allowed to be removed. StarFlyer operates in compliance with these guidelines.
Following a recent aircraft collision incident at Haneda Airport where pets stored in the cargo hold were tragically affected, StarFlyer commented, "We hope to deepen discussions to ensure satisfaction among all our passengers."
