Oct 23 (NHK) - About 2,000 people have taken part in a parade in the ancient Japanese capital of Kyoto in one of the city's major festivals.
The Jidai Matsuri, or the Festival of the Ages, was held on Monday for the first time in 2 years. Last year's event was cancelled due to a typhoon.
Participants wore costumes representing each era in Japanese history.
The festival was begun in 1895 to commemorate the 1,100th anniversary of the transfer of the capital to Kyoto.
It is considered one of the city's 3 major festivals, along with the Aoi Festival in May and the Gion Festival in July.
