Aug 19 (NHK) - Police in Japan have arrested a man on a national wanted list who is suspected of forcibly stopping a car and beating the driver on a highway.
Police say they arrested Fumio Miyazaki, whose address and occupation are unknown, on Sunday in Osaka, western Japan, on suspicion of causing injury.
A nationwide manhunt had been underway since police obtained an arrest warrant for the 43-year-old Miyazaki in relation to a road-rage incident on August 10 in Ibaraki Prefecture, north of Tokyo.
Reports say a car driven by a 24-year-old man was forced to stop by a white car on the Joban Expressway, and a man who got out of the white car hit the driver in the face.
Police say they identified the attacker as Miyazaki based on dashboard camera footage, which shows the assault, and other information.
Investigators say the car driven by Miyazaki is a sport utility vehicle from a foreign luxury carmaker, which was temporarily lent out in July by a car dealer in Yokohama, south of Tokyo.
They say the same car was also driven dangerously in Aichi and Shizuoka Prefectures, central Japan.
Informed sources say Miyazaki traveled about 2,000 kilometers in the car in about 20 days.
