TOKYO, Jan 10 (News On Japan) - The "Population Strategy Council," comprised of private sector experts, published a recommendation on Tuesday suggesting that Japan should aim to be a nation with a total population of 80 million by the year 2100.
The recommendation emphasizes the need for strategies to slow down the pace of population decline and maintain growth potential in a society with a shrinking population.
The council members met with Prime Minister Kishida on January 9th to discuss the recommendation, advocating for the establishment of a command organization within the cabinet to handle population strategies. Prime Minister Kishida responded with a commitment to work on social awareness reform in collaboration with the public and private sectors.
