KYOTO, Jan 15 (News On Japan) - Young men and women turning 20 this year demonstrated their archery prowess on Sunday in the traditional 'Omato' event in Kyoto's Sanjusangendo Hall.
'Omato' has become a national archery competition dating back to the Kamakura period, where samurai competed under the eaves of the 120-meter-long main hall, vying to see how many arrows they could shoot through targets in a single day.
This year, about 1,700 participants dressed in traditional attire aimed their arrows at a target one meter in diameter, located 60 meters away.
