YANGON, Jul 12 (News On Japan) - A Japanese man detained in Myanmar over the sale price of rice has been charged and will face trial on Friday, July 12.
Hiroshi Kasamatsu, 53, an executive of the local subsidiary of retail giant Aeon, was detained by Myanmar authorities last month for selling rice at prices higher than regulated.
He was being interrogated at a police station in Yangon, the largest city. According to the Japanese embassy in Myanmar, Kasamatsu was charged on the 11th of July.
His health is reported to be in good condition.
According to military sources, Kasamatsu's trial is scheduled for the 12th of July.
He faces up to three years in prison, with the possibility of prolonged detention.
The Japanese embassy continues to urge local authorities for Kasamatsu's early release.
