TOKYO, Jul 19 (News On Japan) - A malfunction in the registers at McDonald's continues to persist since this morning, with no resolution in sight. Our reporter, Izumi, reports from a store that was temporarily closed.
The Tokyo McDonald's store behind me had its blinds down until just a moment ago, ceasing operations. However, it has now reopened, and many customers eagerly waiting outside have entered the store.
I have been covering this since the morning, and at another location, I observed delivery personnel who received orders online standing idly outside the store.
An Uber Eats delivery person commented, "I make dozens of deliveries a day, so this affects my earnings significantly. It's a big hit."
According to McDonald's Japan, as of 3 p.m., approximately 30% of stores nationwide have experienced register malfunctions since this morning, causing them to halt operations.
Additionally, the mobile order system, which allows ordering and payment via smartphone, has been suspended at some locations.
McDonald's Japan is currently investigating the cause of the issue and has stated that there is no estimate for when the problem will be resolved.
