TOKYO, Jul 26 (News On Japan) - The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department is facing a decline in the number of applicants, leading to concerns about future recruitment. In an effort to showcase the appeal of the profession, the department held a training event for students, featuring demonstrations by special police units.
At the police academy in Fuchu City, Tokyo, the training sessions were open to over 100 high school and university students. The event included a demonstration by the special police unit (SP), showcasing their ability to protect dignitaries from approaching vehicles, as well as a synchronized slalom performance by female motorcycle officers.
A participating student commented, "It's impressive to see how they protect the citizens of Japan. It has sparked my interest in joining the forensic department or similar units."
The Metropolitan Police Department has seen a 40% decrease in applicants for its recruitment exams compared to ten years ago, highlighting the need for initiatives to attract new talent.
