TOKYO, Jul 31 (News On Japan) - A Japanese company has unveiled groundbreaking footage capturing a close-up of space junk for the first time, with debris from an H2A rocket launched in 2009.
Astroscale, a Japanese space venture, released the footage on Tuesday, which was filmed in mid-July. This is the first time a real piece of debris has been recorded while orbiting in space.
Astroscale plans to leverage this technology to develop future businesses focused on collecting space debris and refueling satellites to extend their operational lifespan.
