AI to Predict Weather at Osaka Expo Site

OSAKA, Aug 01 (News On Japan) - A demonstration of an AI-based weather prediction service was held at the construction site of Expo 2025 in Osaka, Kansai.

The service, unveiled on July 31 at Yumeshima in Osaka, aims to provide pinpoint weather forecasts for construction sites with high accuracy. Developed by Osaka Gas and Obayashi Corporation, the service uses AI trained on past observation data to predict temperature, precipitation, and lightning in 10-minute intervals. It also sends notifications to site managers' smartphones if there is a risk of heatstroke or bad weather conditions that could halt high-altitude work.

An Obayashi Corporation site manager commented, "There have been times when we changed our schedule based on a sudden rain forecast, even on days we expected it to stay dry."

The trial will continue until March next year, with the aim of practical application as early as the next fiscal year.
