Aomori, Aug 03 (News On Japan) - Northerern Japan's Aomori Nebuta Festival, which began on August 2, features a nebuta designed by 14-year-old student, titled, 'Dragon God and Giant Catfish', dedicated to the victims of the Noto Peninsula earthquake.
The festival, believed to have origins in the Tanabata lantern floating tradition, marked the first time a student-designed nebuta was featured. The design was selected through a contest for Aomori City students and refined by nebuta master Ryusei Uchiyama. This initiative aims to foster interest in traditional culture among young people. Although plans to run the nebuta in the disaster area were scrapped due to road conditions, students from Ishikawa's Shika Town were invited to visit Aomori.
