Kitakyushu, Apr 13 (News On Japan) - An exhibition showcasing hand-painted ukiyo-e artworks is being held in Kitakyushu City. The event, titled "Hand-Painted Ukiyo-e," is taking place at the Idemitsu Museum of Arts in the Moji district and features 31 ukiyo-e pieces created with brush and ink, rather than woodblock printing.
Among the highlights is "Three Beauties under the Cherry Blossoms" by Katsukawa Shunshō, a delicate depiction of women in ornate garments beneath blooming cherry trees. The intricate brushwork is evident in their graceful expressions and finely detailed costumes.
Also on display are rare hand-painted works by Katsushika Hokusai, including "Beauties in Spring and Autumn." The exhibition features a wide range of renowned artists, such as Hishikawa Moronobu, offering a rare opportunity to appreciate the craftsmanship of hand-drawn ukiyo-e.
The exhibition runs through May 25th.
