BEIJING, Jul 01 (News On Japan) - China, which has been investing heavily in robotics, showcased a new frontier in artificial intelligence with a soccer match played entirely by humanoid robots in Beijing.
All players on the field were AI-controlled robots, participating in a highly unusual soccer match in the Chinese capital. The game featured intense back-and-forth action, including a moment when one robot collapsed and managed to get back up on its own. However, another player remained down and had to be carried off the field on a stretcher.
Commentators added a touch of humor and excitement to the event. "He's looking for the ball! Feels like a fistfight could break out!" one remarked, as the robots jostled for position. Later, a successful through-pass set up a dramatic moment: "Oh! A shot!"
This match was not merely for show. It served as a test event ahead of a global humanoid robot sports competition scheduled for next month in Beijing. Japan may also send its own robot team in the future.
