TOKYO, Aug 22 (News On Japan) - Prime Minister Ishiba announced at the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD), which opened in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, that Japan will train 30,000 professionals in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) in Africa over the next three years.
TICAD, now in its ninth edition, is a Japan-led conference for discussing Africa’s development, with 49 countries participating this year. Ishiba, serving as co-chair, delivered remarks at the opening ceremony.
Ishiba said: "The median age of Africa’s population is 19. Young people are full of energy. Over the next three years, we will support the training of 300,000 human resources, including 30,000 for AI-related industries."
In addition, Ishiba introduced a new initiative to strengthen cooperation by treating India, the Middle East, and Africa as a single economic zone under the "Indian Ocean–Africa Economic Zone Initiative."
