NAGOYA - A medical institution opening in Nagoya's Showa Ward in October will use artificial intelligence-enhanced PET-CT and MRI equipment to produce clearer images and reduce the risk of cancer being overlooked during diagnostic examinations.
PET-CT scans capture both the activity of cells and the shape of organs, helping doctors identify cancer cells. The latest-generation equipment uses AI to process the images, making them clearer than those produced by conventional systems and potentially lowering the risk of missing tumors.
"Ultimately, a human judgment is necessary, but when it comes to image processing, the use of AI has an overwhelming advantage," said Hiroshi Iwata, chairman of the Nagoya Radiological Diagnosis Foundation.
The medical institution will install two of the latest PET-CT scanners and two MRI machines, giving it what it says will be one of the largest diagnostic imaging systems in the Tokai region.
The facility expects advances in imaging technology to further improve the accuracy of examinations while shortening the time required for each patient.
By reducing examination times, the institution hopes to increase the number of patients it can accept and contribute to improving medical services in the region.
