TOKYO, Oct 09 (News On Japan) - SoftBank Group announced that it will acquire the robotics business of ABB, a Swiss company known for developing industrial robots, in a deal valued at approximately 800 billion yen. The acquisition is scheduled to be completed in 2026, as the company aims to accelerate its robotics operations using artificial intelligence (AI).
SoftBank Group Chairman and CEO Masayoshi Son emphasized in a statement that the company’s next frontier will be “physical AI,” declaring, “We will bring together world-class technology and talent to realize groundbreaking advancements that will pave the way for humanity’s future.”
The deal marks one of SoftBank’s most significant investments in robotics since its earlier ventures with humanoid robots and AI-driven automation, underscoring Son’s renewed commitment to merging AI technology with physical systems to expand the company’s global reach in the field of intelligent robotics.
