TOKYO, Mar 11 (News On Japan) - A container ship owned by Mitsui O.S.K. Lines that had remained in the Persian Gulf following the closure of the Strait of Hormuz was found to have sustained damage, although no injuries were reported among the crew.
The damaged vessel is a Japan-flagged container ship owned by the shipping company Mitsui O.S.K. Lines.
While anchored in waters of the Persian Gulf about 100 kilometers from the Strait of Hormuz, the crew discovered a hole in the stern in the early hours of March 11th. Crew members reportedly said they felt a vibration, but the cause of the damage remains under investigation.
None of the crew members, including Japanese nationals, were injured, and the vessel is capable of navigating under its own power.
According to the Japan Shipowners’ Association, a total of 45 Japan-related vessels are currently remaining in the Persian Gulf, with the damaged ship being one of them.
