TOKYO - China's exports of rare-earth magnets to Japan fell by more than half in July from a year earlier, while shipments of tungsten carbide remained at zero for a sixth consecutive month, according to trade data released by Chinese customs authorities.
Exports of rare-earth magnets from China to Japan totaled 111 tons in July, down 52.2% from the same month a year earlier.
The decline was the steepest since June 2025, marking the largest year-on-year drop in one year and one month.
Rare-earth magnets are used in motors for electric vehicles, home appliances and other products.
China's exports of rare-earth magnets to the world as a whole fell 3.6% from a year earlier.
Exports of tungsten carbide, a rare-metal material essential for processing automobile parts and other products, remained at zero for the sixth straight month.
