TOKYO - Rakuten Mobile said on September 14 that it has withdrawn a plan to forcibly cancel mobile service contracts for customers who fail to link their accounts to a Rakuten ID by the end of November.
The carrier had made Rakuten ID linking mandatory for new subscribers as part of efforts to encourage greater use of services across the Rakuten Group.
Rakuten Mobile said it decided to reverse the planned cancellation measure after "comprehensive consideration and a management decision."
However, customers who do not link their Rakuten ID may temporarily lose access to some functions from December, the company said.
