Jul 28 (Ruptly) - Homeless people set up encampments made of cardboard and tarpaulin underneath the Olympics banners outside Tokyo's Metropolitan Government building, as seen on Monday.
According to local news, government officials handed out several eviction notices ahead of the Opening Ceremony for the Summer Games.
"We would like to clean up the whole area, but their stuff (tents and belongings) are in the way, so I'm sorry to say that we haven't done cleaning much. But of course, we do pick up trash," said Tanaka, a janitor
Parks have also been locked up and lit up at night to discourage homeless people from staying there.
