Jul 31 (Kyodo) - Japanese women and men retained second and third places, respectively, on the world's average life expectancy ranking in 2019 as both groups topped a previous record for the eighth straight year, health ministry data showed Friday.
The average life expectancy for Japanese women stood at 87.45 years, up 0.13 from 2018, while that of men was 81.41, up 0.16. Hong Kong ranked first for both women and men at 88.13 and 82.34, respectively.
It was the fifth straight year for Japanese women to come second, while Japanese men ranked third for the third consecutive year. Spanish women placed third at 86.22, while Swiss men were listed second at 81.7.
