Nov 23 (NHK) - Visitors and local residents in the northern Japanese city of Sapporo are enjoying nighttime winter illuminations in a park, along streets and in two popular squares.
Trees, ornaments and monuments have been decked out with a total of 730,000 LED lights.
The annual spectacle has been attracting tourists during the festive winter season since 1981.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, a ceremony to switch on the lights was canceled this year.
Christmas market events, as part of an exchange program with the German city of Munich, will be held online this year.
The winter illuminations can be seen through mid-March.
