Seeking Reality in an Age of Diagnosis Familiarity: The Reiwa Era's Astrology Boom

TOKYO, Jan 29 (News On Japan) - Anzu Maron, who started fortune-telling on YouTube in 2020, now boasts a following of 250,000 subscribers after three years. She expresses that keeping up with the constant changes can be overwhelming, finding solace in fortune-telling.

"I want to know the reality, but it's hard when it's put in a harsh context," reveals the candid feelings of her clients. In a generation accustomed to diagnostic content, the focus is more on the results and numbers rather than the type of fortune-telling method.

Anzu Maron has 250,000 subscribers on her YouTube channel "あんずまろん". In just two years since she began her activities, she has authored more than seven books. With over 2,000 external site followers, she received a special award in 2023. To change the "scary and suspicious" image of fortune-telling, she engages in various activities such as writing for different media, supervising and nurturing a group of fortune-tellers, and producing the fortune-telling x character content "HoshiTaro".

Perhaps due to the current social unrest, fortune-telling has been thriving in recent years. Star fortune-tellers have emerged on television programs, and the venues for fortune-telling have shifted online due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite skepticism and disbelief surrounding fortune-telling, the industry continues to attract interest. Whether seen as dubious or not, the fascination with fortune-telling persists, reflecting the public's desire for guidance and reassurance in uncertain times.
