Tochigi Conducts River Rescue Drills Ahead of Summer

Tochigi, Jul 05 (News On Japan) - Joint training exercises were conducted by the police and fire departments in Tochigi Prefecture to prepare for water accidents in rivers, ahead of the summer vacation season and the approaching typhoon season.

Although Tochigi Prefecture is a landlocked area, river accidents involving fishermen and barbecue-goers are frequent along the Kinugawa and Kokaigawa rivers.

In anticipation of water accidents, police officers participated in training that included swimming while fully clothed, known as "chakui swim," to simulate rescue activities in the water.

Additionally, the training included exercises where ropes were thrown near the target to pull them to safety.

The police and fire departments emphasized the importance of never taking your eyes off young children at the water's edge and ensuring that people do not enter the river after consuming alcohol.
