TOKYO, Jul 08 (News On Japan) - As the yen continues to weaken and prices rise, more people are cutting their summer vacation budgets compared to last year.
According to a survey by Nippon Life Insurance, the most common way to spend this year's summer vacation is 'at home or nearby,' accounting for nearly half of respondents at 48.4%.
The second most popular option is 'domestic travel with accommodation' (16.3%), followed by 'local day trips' (10.2%).
Despite the average summer vacation budget increasing by 1,000 yen to 58,000 yen, the percentage of people planning to 'reduce' their budget (13.0%) has increased compared to last year, surpassing those who plan to 'increase' it (9.6%).
The analysis suggests that with rising leisure costs due to price hikes, many are choosing local activities by elimination.
